Building A Company

OneRoof, Inc. is a C-Corporation with headquarters in San Francisco, California. We currently work through a wholly-owned subsidiary in India. We are a privately held, for-profit company committed both to the performance metrics of a private company and the diligent pursuit of our social mission.

OneRoof builds upon the vision, experience, networks, and local credibility of its predecessor organization, World Corps. A Seattle, Washington-headquartered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1998, World Corps worked in rural areas of four countries— India, Mexico, Kenya, and the Philippines— carrying out youth entrepreneurship training and developing Internet telecenters.

World Corps received grants, loans, and technical assistance from a range of partners—including multilateral organizations, multinational corporations, NGOs, and government agencies such as the Ford Foundation, the Hewlett-Packard Corporation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the state government of Andhra Pradesh, India.

World Corps was recognized by Microsoft Research for its “superior approach to training,” and was selected by the government of Mexico as the only independent provider of advanced training for operators of government-run e-Mexico telecenters

Six World Corps staff members based in the U.S., India and Mexico determined that private capital, rather than philanthropic dollars was the best means by which to “scale up” what was then an emerging business store and platform mode. These staff led the effort to transform the nonprofit World Corps into the for-profit corporation OneRoof, and reached agreement with angel investors in San Francisco to launch OneRoof in October of 2005.
OneRoof inherits the core strengths developed by World Corps and its recognized track record in:

Establishing entrepreneur-led businesses built on a core of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT);
Training, developing, and mentoring store operators; and
Working with a range of partners (governments, corporations, multilaterals, etc.)

This history and reputation in the social realm are a tremendous asset to OneRoof as we seek to establish and grow a successful business with social goals.
